Chemistry Library Policies

All users of the Chemistry Library are required to follow the U of T Libraries Code of Conduct.

Security and Belongings

If you need to leave the library, we recommend that you bring any valuables such as laptops, phones and wallets with you. Library staff are unable to keep watch over your personal property our service desk, as we may have to step away and cannot guarantee its safety.

If one of your items is stolen, please call Campus Community Police right away at 416-978-2323.

Food and Drink

The Chemistry Library aims to provide a clean and comfortable space for all students. Please help us protect our collections and minimize disruptions to others by following our food and drink policies:

  • You are welcome to enjoy snack foods and covered drinks while in the library.
  • Hot meals are not permitted in the library. Please visit a food-friendly space to eat your meals, such as the Atrium on the 3rd floor or the Grad Lounge on the 4th floor.
  • No food of any kind is permitted at the computer workstations.
  • Please be considerate of fellow students by disposing of all garbage and recyclables in designated bins.

If your food or beverage is determined to be in violation of the food and drink policies, you may be asked by a library staff member to discard or remove it. Exceptions to these policies may apply for special events where refreshments are served.

After Hours Library Access

Faculty members, staff, and students with laboratory keys have access to the study space and library collections outside of the A. D. Allen Chemistry Library’s opening hours, including the study rooms. If the fire alarm rings, please leave the building immediately.

Using Library Collections

Books may be used in the library after-hours. However, if you wish to borrow an item, please visit us during our opening hours and ask a staff member for assistance.

Guests

Key holders are responsible for any guests that they bring into the library after hours. Please do not leave your guests unattended, or they may be asked to leave by building security. If the fire alarm rings, please leave the building immediately.
