Course Reserves

View Current Course Reserves List

Instructors at the Department of Chemistry can make their required and recommended course readings available online through Quercus and/or as physical items that can be borrowed from the Chemistry Library's Course Reserve (aka Short-Term Loan or STL) collection. If you are an instructor and would like a textbook to be placed on reserve at the Chemistry Library, please contact Madeline Gerbig at maddy.gerbig@utoronto.ca

The Chemistry Library's Course Reserve collection is located behind our service desk. To borrow a course reserve or use it in the library, please ask a library staff member for assistance.

Borrowing Policy

Course Reserves can be checked out for a 3-day (72-hour) loan when the library is open.

Please return Course Reserve items to the library service desk when we are open, or leave them in the book drop to the left of our front entrance when we are closed. Course Reserves must be returned to the Chemistry Library.

Library Reading List in Quercus

The Library Reading List application in Quercus allows instructors to create a single list of all the course materials required and recommended for their class through the Chemistry Library. This list can include articles, books, eBooks and eBook chapters, weblinks, and media resources. Enrolled students can use the list to access their readings seamlessly within the Quercus course page.

The Library Reading List app is already installed in Quercus, but the link to this tool needs to be made visible to students by the following steps:

  1. In your course menu, click "Settings" (at the bottom left corner)
  2. Click on the "Navigation" tab (at the top of the screen)
  3. Click on and drag "Library Reading List" up from the list of hidden navigation items to the list of visible navigation items in the top half of this list. Place it where you would like it to appear in the course menu.
  4. Save your change

Students will now have access to the Library Reading List app in their course side navigation bar. If the readings fail to appear, please ensure you have selected "Library Reading List" and not "Library Resources."
